Leon the Schoolmaster arrives in the Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov, determined to teach the doctor’s daughter, Sophia. He quickly discovers that everyone in the village is under a curse that makes them stupid and unable to fall in love. If he can improve Sophia’s intelligence, the spell will be broken—but Leon only has one day to make it happen! Will his love for learning (and Sophia) break the curse? Or will Leon fall victim to loveless stupidity for the rest of his life? And why are all those sheep running around?

This Children's Theatre production was produced and performed by Herndon students. A genie, a lamp, and a madcap cast makes for fun for the whole family.

The play is the story of a Jewish family and community at the turn of the 19th century in Russia. Tevye and his wife, Golde, hire a matchmaker to find husbands for their five daughters. The traditi ons that have bound and sustained the family and community for decades break down as three girls choose husbands for love, and anti-semitism and the pogroms force Tevye, his family and neighbors to find new homes in new countries.
